9705. Egyptian Glazed Composition Baboon Vessel
Roman PeriodCa. 2nd Century BC to 1st Century AD. Finely rendered with incised hair and fur; seated erect and alert on integral base, his genitals exposed and his tail curled close to body, two lug handles on either side and hole atop his head. Nice deep blue color. The baboon was sacred to the moon god Thoth and the patron of Egyptian scribes and scholars.
