9412. Roman Marble Architrave with Two Heads

Ca 2nd to 3rd Century AD

Long and slender architectural element carved in relief with two female heads with centrally parted wavy hair, the plump faces with large almond-shaped eyes, the heads overlaying and flanking a band of meandering ivy above a deep-cut row of egg-and-dart with a band of bead-and-reel beneath.

Size 30 x 6¼ inches (76. x 16 cm) + custom mounted.

Ex Asheroffe Collection, UK, formed between 1935-1945.

A rare and choice remnant of antiquity that should be in an important collection.

This is large and visually bold.
