Horseshoe shaped ritual ball game implement rendered compactly as a toad, bufo marinus, with broad-face and large rough textures eyes and tongue extending from the broad mouth, the legs bent tightly at the sides; in green gray stone. Size: 16 1/2 in (41.8 cm) Length + custom mount. Provenance: Ex Wallace Katz collection; Exhibited; The Manhattan Galleries, Important Masterpieces of Pre-Columbian Art, May 14, 1983, lot 36, illus. Purportedly exhibited at Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, New York, prior to 1983.
